Potty Training Days 3 and 4

Dillan has really taken to potty training.  He is pretty regularly self initiating, especially when he is in the mood for some chocolate or a new hot wheels.  He can pee on command which is pretty awesome.

We still have a few challenges to overcome.
1. Using a potty outside of our house.  I think the stimulation of his surroundings is just too much for him and he can't focus enough to go.
2. Using the potty to go poop.  Huge hurdle for every mom i know.  We are just going to be patient and see where we end up. Today he was nice enough to wait until nap time when he had a diaper on, so I"m not really stressing about this yet.
3. Standing up to pee.  Luke is home the next 3 days and will be leading by example.  A lot of cheerios, clean-up and prayer going into this one.

In other news, I'm 15 weeks along.  Baby J is about the size of an apple and is still moving around like crazy, especially when i want to sleep.  I don't remember being so tired during the second trimester with Dillan but I am constantly exhausted.  And stupid.  Pregnancy brain to the max most days.  Should make teaching this quarter interesting.

Potty Training Day #2

A huge success for potty trainers every where!  Three accidents today and two of them were as he was running to the potty.  We had about 10 real successes even though getting there took a lot of M&Ms. he even woke up dry from his 2 hour nap!

Our first accident was no big surprise. D's never been one to go #2 without moving and shaking all over the house to things things going.  So he'd been pushing for a bit.  I left the room for all of 3 seconds and next thing I know, he's running to the potty screaming POOPY ON THE POTTY! Since today was naked day, he left a nice little trail behind him.  The clean-up resulted in a very violent reaction from me, but then again, so does every poopy diaper change these days (hence the potty training now).

Dillan in his big boy underwear!
The next two accidents ended up being a lot easier since he demanded to wear big boy underwear this afternoon.  Quick changes and clean ups.

Big lesson of the day - in order to keep him on the potty long enough to 'go' takes some imagination, especially after 5 or 6 hours of 30 minutes intervals.  Today we had lunch on the potty and ended up bringing in a breakfast tray to use as a track for trains and race cars.

Potty Training Day 1

So we are about 10 hours into Dillan's first day of potty training.  So far we have a success rate of about 50%.  Because I've had a few other moms say they are about to start potty training, here are my thoughts on today.

1. We used the Potty Boot Camp method. Its a hybrid of the naked method, reward method, interval method and just plain common sense.  YOu can buy a copy here.  http://www.thepottybootcamp.com/buy-now.html

2. Pre-potty training was essential!  we did about 2 months of just having a ring in the house and letting him sit on it from time to time.  For the last 12 days or so, he's sat on it bare bottomed 2 or 3 times a day.  Such a big help not having to teach him how to sit still on the potty today and that its ok to relax while on it.  We rewarded him with M&Ms for sitting on the potty all during this time.  He got extra if he actually went.

3. So glad luke and i both had the day off today.  this is exhausting work!  its nice being able to tag out every couple of hours or have one of us cleaning accidents while the other supervises potty time.  I can't imagine doing this on my own.

4. POTTY WATCH = BRILLIANT!!! we tried to get him to go to the potty a few times without one and had some melt downs.  But once he started to hear the fun little BEEP BEEP BEEP, he started getting all excited about potty time.

All and all, a good first day.  I'm thinking this is going to be possible but its going to take a lot of patience.
